A story of starfish

Once upon a time, a man was walking along a beach. In the distance, he saw a little girl. She was bending down and picking something up. Then she would throw it into the ocean, smile, and do it all again.

As he approached, he asked her, “what are you doing, little girl?”

“I’m saving this starfish that has been stranded here by the tide,” she said as she picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean”

“But little girl,” the man cried, “there are hundreds of stranded starfish on this beach alone. And there are thousands of beaches like this one. You can’t make difference by rescuing one star fish!”

The little girl smiled. She reached down, picked up a starfish, and hurled it into the ocean. “I made a difference to that one,” she replied.

this story was taken from Stever Robbins’s book.
Well, the moral of the story is admirable: Any action, no matter how small, can matter.

Entah kenapa saya gak pernah iri dengan teman-teman wanita yang bekerja di perusahaan terkenal, punya usaha sukses, atau mendapat beasiswa meneruskan kuliah.

Namun ternyata saya iri.. iri sekali.. dengan teman-teman yang sudah menikah atau bahkan sedang mulai menjaga benih kehidupan baru dalam rahimnya.
Suatu proses yang menunjukkan bahwa mereka telah berani menuju gerbang menjadi hakikat wanita seutuhnya. Berani membuktikan komitmen untuk melengkapi agamanya.

Suatu proses yang selalu mendapat jawaban “belum” ketika saya tanyakan ke diri ini: “kamu sudah siap?”
